Blazers down in Flames

2014-10-15

Last years NSJHL Finals still fresh in the minds of the Miners, redemption was on the line, In what seemed to play out as though the playoffs were continued from last season. Both teams gave everything to impress the fans, but in the end the Miners lit the match to burn the Blazers.

The win keeps the Glace Bay team (5-1) at the top of the Sid Rowe Division in the Nova Scotia Junior Hockey League.

The loss was the first of the season for the visiting Blazers who were outshot by the Miners 46-36 before several hundred fans at the Glace Bay rink.

Ryan Bursey scored three goals to lead the Miners while Drew Wilcox chipped in with a single tally.

Zach Thomas and Brett Arthur replied for Sackville.

Scott MacDonald was solid between the pipes for Glace Bay as he made 34 saves, while at the other end of the ice Riley Piercey stopped 42 shots.

The Junior Miners are in action again next weekend when a mainland road trip takes them to the Valley on Friday for a game against the Maple Leafs and to Sackville on Saturday for a rematch with the Blazers.
