Win Streak hits 8 in a Row for Miners
2014-12-07The Jr Miners win streak now sits at 8 games thanks to a 7-3 defeat of the Bulldogs in Antigonish on Friday and followed it up on Saturday with a 3-2 defeat of the Strait Pirates in North Sydney, at the Emera Centre.
On Friday, the Miners travelled to Antigonish where Andrew MacPhee led the Glace Bay attack with three goals, while team captain John Michael Walsh chipped in with two goals. Tristan Unsworth and Kyle Peck rounded out the scoring for the Miners.
Sam Johnson registered three assists and Harry Levatte added two helpers for Glace Bay.
Emerson Coulter, Ryan Keefe and Scott Coulton replied for Antigonish.
The Miners outshot the Bulldogs 32-19.
Scott MacDonald made 16 saves for Glace Bay, while Brandon MacDonald and Tanner Doiron combined to save 25 shots for the Bulldogs.
On Saturday, the Jr Miners moved their home arena to the Emera Centre in North Sydney where infromt of a nice crowd and great hospitality they treated threated the fans to a 3-2 shoot out win against the Stait Pirates.
Former Memorial Marauders Chris Osmond would open the scoring infront of his hometown crowd at the 12:27 mark of the 2nd, then only 1:01 later, "darksider" Mark Gouthrou would put the Miners up by 2.
the Pirates would get it within 1 before the end of the period and then tie the game in the 3rd.
At the end of regulation, the Miners held a shot advantage of 44-19. Overtime settled nothing where the home boys again outshot the Pirates by 9-3, which sent the game to a shootout.
Pirates shooter would get the first goal, but the crowd would be wowed to their feet in excitement watching the goal by fellow Northsider Lincoln Bradley to knot it at a goal a piece. With Nick Walsh making the big save, leading scorer Tristen Unsworth wouldnt disapoint getting the game winner.
With the win, the Miner sit atop the league standings in first place overall with a record of 17-5 for a total of 34 points.
The Miners next Home game will be played on Saturday 13 Dec against the Pictou Scotians at 7:30.
