Jr Miners take the win in Shoot-Out
2015-01-11Miners took the extra point from their division rival Scotians in the race for 1st on Sat Night at the Bayplex in a great game shoot out.
The Glace Bay team outshot its mainland rivals 36-23 in a tight checking affair at the BayPlex.
Both goalies - Miners' Nick Walsh and Scotians' Mitch Donlevy - played well and forced the low-scoring affair to be settled with a shoot-out.
The Miners' Ryan Bursey and Lucas Eshleman of the Scotians traded goals before Patrick Byrne beat Donlevy to give the Miners (22-6) the win and the two points.
The Scotians (13-7-1-1) picked up one point for the shoot-out loss and, with 28 points, trail the Sid Rowe Division-leading Miners by 16 points. Pictou has played six fewer games than Glace Bay.
Harry Levatte and Andrew MacPhee scored for the Miners during regulation time, while Brad MacEachen and Craig Matheson replied for the Scotians.
The Miners next match is on Friday, Jan. 16 when they travel to Port Hawkesbury to take on the rival Strait Pirates.
