Miners Take Another One

Miners came out on top of a hard fought battle at the Bayplex wich led to the third stait Overtive game for the club.

At the Bay Plex in Glace Bay the Strait Pirates were in town for the rubber match between the two Cape Breton teams. In earlier matches the Miners beat the Pirates 2-0 then the Pirates edged the Miners 2-1 in overtime in Port Hawkesbury. This time the Glace Bay Miners came from behind to edge the Pirates 4-3 in overtime.

 

The Pirates scored the only goal of the first period when Nick Allard scored a unassisted, short-handed goal halfway through the period.

 

Shots were dead even at eight apiece after one.

 

In the second Ryan MacDougall tied the game at one, an even strength goal, from Mitch Carabin and Kenny MacInnis. In the span of thirty-three seconds the Pirates took a 3-1 lead on goals from Allard, his second an unassisted,  power play goal then Matt Sode, an even-strength goal from Sean Tyler and Amerian Pino. Liam MacDonnell was able to get the Miners to within one, with just over three minutes left in the period, from Jordan Langlois and Eugene Fraser.

 

In the third Jordan Langlois tied the game at three, with just over eight minutes to play, a short-handed goal from Brett McCarron and Jeff MacKinnon.

 

Then with just over two minutes, left in the overtime period, MacDonnell scored his second of the night from Jordan Langlois and Brett McCarron.

 

The Miners outshot the Pirates 35-27 with Jon MacKinnon picking up the win while Chris Denney suffered the loss.
