On Saturday Night in Glace Bay the Miners were defeated by the Bulldogs by a score of 5-2. The Bulldogs were lead by their leading scorer Steven MacGillivary with a goal and an assist as they led the tropps to a 5-2 final.

The Miners came out with some jump in the first period within the first five minutes with physical play from RJ Barrett and returning player Daniel Brown. Cheticamp native Scott Chiasson struck first for the Bulldogs with 12 seconds left in a Miners penalty in the first period. If it wasn’t for Miners goaltender Jonathan McKinnon the score could have been a lot worse as the Bulldogs pulled out 16 shots alone in the first period. Shots after the 1st period were Antigonish 16 and Glace Bay with 12.

The Miners  came out flat footed in the second and were lucky to hold off the Bulldogs from the score sheet as long as they did. The Bulldogs finally struck with a crisp cross ice pass to Ronnie Power at the 8:16 mark. The critical goal was assisted by Tim MacDougall and Steven MacGillivray. The Bulldogs were up 2-0 in 40 minutes as the Miners were shut out for another period by goaltender Matt Schlotzhauer. Shots after the 2nd period were Antigonish with 8 and Glace Bay with 7.

To make things worse for the Miners, the Bulldogs struck at the 18:54 mark in the third period on a Miners high stick at the blue line that Bulldogs forward Ben Crowell took advantage of and stepped in and sniped a goal on McKinnon who stood tall in the first two frames. But the Miners began to show some life from the line of Mitch Carabin, Daniel Brown and RJ Barrett. Miners captain Mitch Carabin was hauled down on a breakaway which he received a penalty shot for. As he stepped over the blue line, Carabin deked Bulldogs goalie and put a backhander in to cut the lead to only 2 for the Bulldogs at 14:20. But not even a minute later, the Bulldogs struck at 13:48 on a goal by Steven MacGillivary from Marcus VanOirschot which took what life was in the Miners right out of them.

Putting salt in the wound, the Bulldogs struck again at 8:59 by David McCarthy from Ryan Smith. But knowing the Miners, they never quit. With 50 seconds left, Eugene Fraser netted a tally for the Miners assisted by Brett Simmons but it was much too late. In the third frame the Bulldogs had 12 shots on net for a game total of 36, 8 faceoff wins for a game total of 20 and 8 hits for a three period total of 22. The Miners had 11 shots in the third for a 3 period total of 30.  Shouldering the loss for the Miners was Jonathan McKinnon. Matt Schlotzhauer made 28 saves in the win over the Glace Bay.

Sunday night in Trenton the Scotians took advantage of a short Glace Bay bench to soundly beat the Junior Miners 7-2. The Scotians were led by Julian Perrotta with a hat trick while captain Ric Doyle added a pair. Cole Anderson and Nick Hodgeson also picked up singles. Randy Henley chipped in with a pair of assists.

Mitch Carabin and Daniel Brown replied for the Miners.

The Scotians led 2-1 after one then 5-1 after two.

Jon McLean handled 32 shots for the winners while a much busier Jon MacKinnon faced 51 shots.

The win now leaves Pictou just one point behind the Junior Miners for the last play-off spot in the Sid Rowe Division. Each team have five games remaining.
