February 5, 2011. Only one game Saturday night, in the Nova Scotia Junior Hockey League, had the Antigonish Bulldogs in Glace Bay to meet the Junior Miners. The Bulldogs, most likely will finish third in the Sid Rowe Division but fourth place is up for grabs to either the Glace Bay Junior Miners or Pictou County Scotians. The Miners needed this game badly and despite leading 4-1 after forty minutes absolutely blew it in the third by allowing four unanswered goals, which included two even-strength, a power play, and a short-handed goal.

Corey Langlois had the only goal of the first period to give the Miners a 1-0 lead. Jordan Langlois and Brett McCarron       drew the assists.

After one the home team had a slim 1-0 lead with shots dead even at 17 apiece.

Rookie Brett Simmons gave the Miners a 2-0 lead just under five minutes into the second period. With just over five minutes to play Dave McCarthy finally put Antigonish on the scoreboard but twenty-seven seconds later Jeff MacKinnon restored the Miners’ two-goal cushion from Mitch Carabin. With one minute eight seconds Brett Simmons, his second of the night, gave the Miners a 4-1 lead on the power play from Carabin and RJ Barrett.

Shots in the period favored the Miners at 14-11 for a two-period total of 31-28.

In the third the Bulldogs struck for four unanswered goals to take the win at 5-4. First, Ronnie Power from Tim MacDougall and Steven MacGillivray; then, McCarthy, his second of the night, from John MacLellan and Ben Crowell. Next Ryan Smith from Chris Alguire and finally, with just over six minutes remaining, Rick Chisholm from MacLellan and Graeme Lodge.

The Miners had a sixth attacked for over a minute but unable to score. Kyle Williamson picked up the win for the Bulldogs while Jon MacKinnon was tagged with the loss. Glace Bay picked up six minor penalties in the third, which contributed to their downfall.
