The Glace Bay Jr. Miners travelled to Springhill to take on the 1st place Cumberland County Blues on Friday night and left everything on the ice, taking with them 2 big points in a 5-4 win, putting them again 1 point up on the idle Pictou Scotians for the final playoff spot.
The Miners were led by RJ Barrett with a goal and three assists. Captain Mitch Carabin notched a pair with singles going to Jordan Langlois, Kenny Routledge and Barrett.
Devon Muir added a pair of goals along with two assists, for four points on the night, for the Blues. Kevin Cormier and Garrett MacArthur rounded out the scoring for Cumberland who led 2-1 after one; 4-3 after two but the Miners added two unanswered goals in the final frame.
Jonathan McKinnon picked up the win for the Miners facing thirty shots while Andrew Court faced 40 shots in a losing cause.
The Miners will now travel to Pictou County to take on the Scotians at the Trento Arena. With a 1 point advantage over the Scotians for the final playoff spot, this game as well as next weekend will be 2 of the most important the Miners have played, everything is on the line right now and the Miners would like nothing better than to extend thier season a few weeks while at the same time shortening that of the Scotians.
