Pirates Take Stranglehold on Sid Rowe Semi

Just one game in the Nova Scotia Junior Hockey League saw the Strait Pirates take a convincing 3-0 lead, in the Sid Rowe best-of-seven semi-final, with a 2-0 win over had Glace Bay Junior Miners in Port Hawkesbury Monday night.

February 28, 2011. Just one game in the Nova Scotia Junior Hockey League saw the Strait Pirates take a convincing 3-0 lead, in the Sid Rowe best-of-seven semi-final, with a 2-0 win over had Glace Bay Junior Miners in Port Hawkesbury Monday night.

 

The teams played a scoreless first period with the Pirates holding an 8-6 shot advantage.

 

In the second rookie Eric MacKinnon opened the scoring for the Pirates, with the only goal of the period, from KJ MacNeil.

 

Shots were a little closer at 11-10 Pirates.

 

In the third the Pirates added an insurance marker, at the twelve-minute mark, a power play goal by Matthew Miller from Josh McGrath and Evan Wright.

 

Chris Denney picked up the shutout and his third win of the series.

 

Game four is Tuesday night back in Glace Bay at 7:45 pm.
