2011-03-01

Tuesday night saw the Glace Bay Junior Miners avoid elimination with a 2-1 win over the Strait Pirates

March 1, 2011. Just two NSJHL games Tuesday night saw the Glace Bay Junior Miners avoid elimination with a 2-1 win over the Strait Pirates while the Windsor Royals nipped the Brookfield Elks 4-3 in overtime to take a 3-0 lead in their Fred Fox semi-final.

At the Bay Plex in Glace Bay the Glace Bay team, playing before a large crowd, hit the score sheet first when Jordan Langlois pulled the trigged with Eugene Fraser and call-up John Michael Walsh.

Despite trailing 1-0 the Pirates held a slim 14-13 shot advantage.

In the second Nick Allard pulled the Pirates even at one with an even-strength goal, from Marc Bourgeois and Jeremy Sheppard. Just four minutes later RJ Barrett's power play goal from Scott Sampson and Brett Simmons would prove to be the winner.

Again the Pirates held a slim 11-10 shot advantage for a two-period total of 25-23.

The teams played a scoreless third period.

Jon MacKinnon picked up the win for Glace Bay kicking out 34 of 35 shots while Chris Denney handled 29 of 31.

Game five is Friday night at the Port Hawkesbury Civic Centre at 7:30 pm.
