March 4, 2011. Friday night, in the Nova Scotia Junior Hockey League, the Glace Bay Junior Miners nipped the Strait Pirates 3-2 to stay alive in their best-of-seven Sid Rowe semi-final in Port Hawkesbury and now trail the Pirates 3-2 with game six back at the Bay Plex in Glace Bay Saturday night at 7:45.
The Glace Bay Junior Miners with five call-ups in the line up, because of injuries, and a hot goaltender in Jon MacKinnon managed to force game six back in Glace Bay.

Glace Bay took an early 2-0 first-period lead on goals by captain Mitch Carabin and Eugene Fraser. RJ Barrett, Ryan MacDougall, John Michael Walsh and Carabin all picked up assists on the goals. Josh McGrath managed to beat MacKinnon before the end of the period to cut the Miners’ lead in two. Matt Miller drew the only assist.

Despite trailing 2-1 the Pirates held an 11-7 shot advantage.

In the second Nick Allard tied the game at two from Marc Bourgeois and Jeremy Sheppard but three minutes later Brett McCarron gave the lead for good to the Miners, on an even-strength goal, from Fraser and Jordan Langlois.

The teams played a scoreless third period. The Pirates held a 46-38 shot advantage.
