Miners Select Two With Territorial Draft

Glace Bay, NS, July 29, 2011 - The Glace Bay Junior Miners have selected Jordan Kennedy (Moncton Wildcats) and Mitch McMullin (Appleby College Prep School) as the team's 2011 territorial picks, the team announced Friday.
Each team of the Nova Scotia Junior Hockey League is permitted to select up to two players from their home territory and have until Monday, August 1st to claim their territorial selections.
Kennedy, a 18 year-old Goaltender from Reserve Mines, split last season with the Glace Bay High School Panthers and Moncton Wildcats of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League. With the Panthers, he posted a record of 15 Wins 3 Losses and a GAA of 2.31 while with the Wildcats his record was 0 Wins 1 Loss with a GAA of 9.36. Kennedy was a 2009 2nd Round Selection (27th overall) of the Lewiston Mainiacs before getting traded to Moncton this season for New York Islanders prospect Kirill Kabanov.
McMullin, also from Reserve Mines, is a skilled forward who played last season with with Appleby College where he finished tied for 2nd on the team in scoring where he accumulated 7 goals, 9 assists for 16 points in 14 games. He was a 2010 draft pick of the Pictou Weeks Crushers (MHL) before being dealt at the 2011 Entry Draft to the Miramichi Timberwolves.
"We're very pleased with our selections," said Jordan Evasuk-MacDonald, General Manager of the Junior Miners. "We have to look to the future and find players not only for this year but for years to come and I think we did that." Evasuk-MacDonald said. "Any time you can add two local kids with the talent and character of these players it can only help down the road."
