Miners Defeat Pirates in Exhibition Tilt
2011-09-22The Glace Bay Jr. Miners and Strait Pirates split a two-game Nova Scotia Junior Hockey League home-and-home exhibition series this past weekend.
On Sunday afternoon in North Sydney at the new Northside Civic Centre, the Miners won 6-5 over the Pirates. Cal McNeil was the top scorer for the Miners posting two goals, while Eugene Fraser scored a single tally and also added an assist. Kyran Fogarty, Colton Abraham and Ryan MacDougall also found the back of the net for Glace Bay.
Americo Pino led the Pirates with a hat trick in a losing cause. David Greencorn and Tremaine Sampson chipped in with singles.
Saskatchewan native Keith Boon stopped 23 shots to earn the win, while Bryce Knott suffered the loss.
The Miners open the NSJHL season this weekend against the Sackville Blazers at Sackville Arena Saturday at 7:30 pm before playing the Eastern Shore Mariners at the Eastern Shore Community Centre Sunday at 12:30 pm.
