Miners Drop Season Opener To Blazers

In the Miners season opening game, the Blazers had an easy time registering a 5-1 win over the Glace Bay Junior Miners in Lower Sackville despite the Miners carrying the play in both the second and third periods.
Rookie Jarrett Conway opened the scoring for the Blazers just two minutes in. Payton Tench and Ross Barnhart picked up the assists. Brett Simmons tied the game at one before the Blazers exploded for three unanswered goals by Shane Oderkirk, Ben Colford and captain Justin Keizer.
The Blazers had a huge 23-10 shot advantage after one.
The teams played a scoreless second period.
In the third feisty Chris Dart closed off the scoring for the Blazers, an even-strength goal, from Matt MacLellan.
Alex Newman picked up the win for Sackville who are now 1-1-0 while Scott MacDonald was tagged for the loss.
