Miners Lose Home Opener in Shootout
2011-10-12Glace Bay - The Glace Bay Junior Miners didn't see a turnaround this weekend after losing their home opener 7-6 iin a shootout to the defending league champion St. Margarets Bay Ducks in Nova Scotia Junior Hockey League action at the Bayplex in Glace Bay on Saturday.
The loss dropped the Miners record to 0-2-0-1.
The Miners couldn't pull out a win despite scoring five power play goals. Colton Abraham, with two, Scott Sampson, Brett Simmons, Brett McCarron and R.J. Barrett scored for Glace Bay. McCarron also chipped in a pair of assists.
Adam Woodland and Dustin Campbell each scored twice for the Ducks. Todd Martin and Doug Hore added singles.
Miners goalie Scott MacDonald stopped 32 shots on net, while Bay Ducks goalie Tom Nicholson stopped a total of 48 shots. Shootout details were not available.
