Miners Remain Winless In Junior Action

East Hants - The Glace Bay Junior Miners are still searching for their first win of the new season.

The Miners were handed a pair of road losses in Nova Scotia Junior Hockey League play oever the weekend, suffering a 6-4 setback to the East Hants Penguins Sunday and a 5-3 defeat to the Bay Ducks on Saturday.

Sunday at the East Hants Sportsplex, Marc Thibodeau's goal 1:22 into the third period stood up as the winner for the Penguins, who held a 4-3 lead heading into the final period. East Hants trailed the Miners 3-1 after the opening frame.

Thibodeau and Matt Anthony scored and added an assist apiece, while Cory Pettipas, Cole Isenore, Eric Morrison and Matt Doudelet added singles. Jamie Sweet chipped in with three assists.

The Miners received offense from Jordan Langlois, Liam MacDonnell, Eugene Fraser and Kevin Cormier. Kinnon MacMillan made 30 saves fro the victory, while Keith Boon deflected 22 shots in the loss.

Saturday at the St. Margarets Bay Arena, Adam Woodland netted a hat trick and added two assists in the Ducks win. Nick Hart and Dustin Campbell chipped in singles.

Langlois scored twice for the Miners, while recent addition Chris Ross added a single.

Graham Buhr deflected 36 shots for the win, while Boon made 34 saves to shoulder the loss.

The Miners next game is Friday when they travel to Antigonish to take on the Bulldogs at 7:30 pm at the Antigonish Arena. The Miners are back in action Saturday at home when they host the Eastern Shore Junior Mariners at the Bayplex at 7:30 pm.
