Miners Defeat Mariners for First Win
2011-11-07October 15, 2011. Prior to tonight there were three teams looking for their first win of the season, in the Nova Scotia Junior Hockey League. .
In Glace Bay the Miners finally shed the albatross that plagued them for a month now with a big win at home. With just thirty seconds remaining in the opening period captain Ryan Morris scored a power play goal from Dominic Howell and Andrew Bruce to give Mariners a 1-0 lead after the first twenty minutes.
Shots favoured the Miners 13-7.
In the second the Miners fired two unanswered goals to take a 2-1 after two. First captain Brett McCarron from Jordan Langlois and Eugene Fraser then speedy Chris Ross from Cal McNeil had the home team on top.
Despite trailing, in the period, the Mariners did have a 17-10 shot advantage for a slim 2-period total of 24-23.
The teams traded goals in the final period with Kieran Fogarty getting the Miners up 3-1 before Morris added his second of the night to get the Mariners to within one. The Miners held on for the win to finally get in the win column.
Keith Boon picked up the win for the Miners while CJ Schipani was tagged with the loss.
