GLACE BAY, NS --- Glace Bay Junior Miners General Manager Jordan Evasuk-MacDonald announced earlier today that the Miners have hired ex NHL player and coach Doug Sulliman as a hockey consultant to assist the team for the remainder of the 2011-2012 season.

"We feel very fortunate to have been able to bring a coach and a person like Doug into our organization," says Evasuk-MacDonald. "He is a hard-working, intelligent individual whose work ethic is second to none.
To add someone of his calibre to our staff is very exciting for the team and for the community.”

Doug will work with current coaches, RJ MacKenzie, Kent Verbeski and Liam Morrison sharing his expertise and provide a mentorship program for both the coaching staff and the players. The Miners currently have 9 rookies on the 2011/2012 team, making them one of the youngest teams in the Nova Scotia Junior Hockey League.

Prior to becoming a coach, the native of Glace Bay, Nova Scotia played 11 years as a forward in the National Hockey League with the New York Rangers, Hartford Whalers, New Jersey Devils, and Philadelphia Flyers. In 631 career NHL games, he registered 160 goals and 168 assists for 328 points with 175 penalty minutes.

After his retirement, Sulliman served as an Assistant Coach with the Devils from 1990-1993, including a season under legendary coach Herb Brooks in the 1992-1993 season. While Sulliman was with the Devils the team posted a regular season record of 110-101-33 and qualified for the playoffs in each season.

After coaching the Devils, Doug took a hiatus from hockey before being hired on July 10, 2008 to be an Assistant Coach for Head Coach Wayne Gretzky and the Phoenix Coyotes.

The Miners next home game is this upcoming Saturday, November 12 when they face the Brookfield Elks at 7:30 pm at the Bayplex.
