Miners Acquire Sweeney From East Hants

Glace Bay, NS, December 16, 2011 - The Glace Bay Junior Miners have acquired Adam Sweeney from the East Hants Penguins in exchange for the Miners 2012 draft pick, the team announced early Friday.

Sweeney, a 18 year old 5'11, 185 lbs goaltender from Lower Sackville, Nova Scotia spent the first half of this season playing Jr. A in the International Junior Hockey League based in the United States with the New York Gamblers before returning home and suiting up with the East Hants Penguins of the Nova Scotia Junior Hockey League while posting a record of 1-0 with a 2.38 GAA and a .910 SV%.

Sweeney was the 1st overall pick in the IJHL Nova Scotia Draft. Last season, playing with the Millwood Knights in Nova Scotia, Adam played in 18 games compiling 14 wins on the season, including 2 shutouts and no losses. He had a 1.54 GAA and a .900 SV%.
 
"With the addition of Adam this gives us much more depth in goal for the next couple seasons," said Jordan Evasuk-MacDonald, General Manager of the Junior Miners. "He is a highly touted goalie with a great attitude and work ethic" Evasuk-MacDonald said. "He played on one of the better High School programs in the Province last season with Millwood and was one was of the top goaltenders in the province."
