MacKinnon OT Hero As Junior Miners Edge Blues

On Friday night the Glace Bay Junior Miners hit the road and headed to Springhill for a battle of third place teams in the Sid Rowe Division.

Colin MacKinnon proved to be the hero for Glace Bay as he potted two goals including the overtime winner with just 57 seconds remaining. MacKinnon also picked up an assist in his first game with the Junior Miners. MacKinnon played a couple of years with the Truro Bearcats of the Maritime Junior A League. Also scoring for Glace Bay were Sean Ferguson, Brett McCarron, Brett Simmons and RJ Barrett. Jordan Langlois and Cal MacNeil both picked up a pair of assists for the winners.

 

Five different skaters scored for the Blues. Josh Coleman, Cody Taker, Geoff Burke, Cole Wood and Tyler Gould. Zach Carson picked up a pair of helpers for the Blues.

 

The teams were tied at two after twenty minutes with the Blues holding a 13-10 shot advantage. The Junior Miners scored the only goal of the second to take the lead at 3-2 and in the third the Blues outscored Glace Bay 3-2 while scoring the tying goal with just over two and a half minutes remaining to send the game into the extra period. Cal MacNeil picked up the only assist on the MacKinnon winning goal.

 

Junior Miner’s goaltender Scott MacDonald picked up his 6th win of the year while Nathan Kelley was tagged with the loss. Glace Bay out shot the Blues 47-34.

 

With the win the Junior Miners improve to 8-11-1-1 and move two points up on the Blues who fall to 8-14-0-0.

 
The Junior Miners return home late tonight and will take on the Sackville Blazers tomorrow  night at 7:30pm at the BayPlex. Come out and support YOUR Miners!!!
