Junior Miners Take A Bite Out Of Bulldogs

2012-01-16

The visiting Antigonish Bulldogs took to the road on Saturday to face off against the streaking Junior Miners of Glace Bay who had won 8 of their previous 9 games.

At the Bay Plex in Glace Bay the hometown Glace Bay Junior Miners took the rubber match in their fifth meeting this year between the two teams with a big 7-3 win over the Antigonish Bulldogs. In four prior games the teams split with two wins each. The Junior Miners have been on their game lately and could possibly be the dark horse heading into the playoffs, which begin in about 5 weeks.

Jordan and Corey Langlois each with a pair of goals and an assist led the Junior Miners. Singles went to RJ Barrett, Brett McCarron and Sam Johnson. Eugene Fraser, Scott Sampson, Cal MacNeil, Colin MacKinnon and Kenny Routledge all picked up double assists on the night.

John Wagstaff, Justin Chiasson and Chris Alguire replied for Antigonish. Steven MacGillivray chipped in with a pair of assists.

Scott MacDonald picked up his 8th win for Glace Bay while Derrick Tait and Kyle Williamson was tagged with the loss.

The team were tied at one after one; Junior Miners exploded for 4 goals in the second to take a 5-2 lead and the Miners added 2 in the third.

Glace Bay now improves to 10-11-1-1 and add a little breathing room between them and the Cumberland County Blues who sit in fourth place, in the Sid Rowe Division, just 3 points behind the Junior Miners.
