Junior Miners Win 6th In A Row

2012-01-16

On Sunday night, the Junior Miners took to the road and visited the hometown Pictou County Scotians for a 7:30pm tilt in Trenton at the Trenton Arena.

For the Miners it was their 10th win in their last 11 games which started back on November 19th. In the only other match the Windsor Royals shutout the Antigonish Bulldogs 2-0 in Antigonish.

In Trenton the teams played a scoreless first period with Glace Bay holding a comfortable 17-11 shot advantage.

In the second Jordan Langlois had the Jr. Miners up 1-0 with his 12th of the season and only goal of the period from Colin MacKinnon and Brett McCarron. Once again the Jr. Miners owned the shot clock at 14-7 for a 2-period total of 31-18.

In the third period Colin MacKinnon scored his 5th goal in just 4 games since joining the Glace Bay squad. Sam Johnson and Kevin Cormier drew the assists. Four minutes later Kenny Routledge had the Jr. Miners up 3-0 when he finished with McCarron and MacKinnon and for MacKinnon his third point of the night and 13th point of the year. Just past the mid-point of the final period Pictou’s Brad Daley was finally able to find the back on the Glace Bay net and get the Scotians to within two at 3-1. Tim Robertson and Devon Cameron drew the assists.

Justin Brewer picked up the win blocking 25 of 26 shots fired his way. Ben Goss was a lot busier facing 53 shots. The Jr. Miners pick up another 2 points to improve to 11-11-1-1 while the struggling Scotians drop to 2-20-2-1.

The Junior Miners take to the ice next weekend with a pair of games against the Cumberland Blues with a 7:30pm start on Saturday and host the Blues again on Sunday with a rare 2:00pm start which will be Minor Hockey Day where any kid wearing a Minor Hockey Jersey from any association will be admitted at no charge accompanied by an adult.
