Win Streak Snapped At 7

2012-01-22

Sunday, January 22, 2012. This weekend the Cumberland County Blues were determined they were leaving Cape Breton with one, two, three or preferably 4 points.

In the end it was 2 points as they skated to a 7-4 win Sunday afternoon after losing 9-2 on Saturday night.

The big line of Jordie Shaw, Zach Carson and Geoff Burke, who sit #1, 2 and 3 in league scoring, led the Blues to the win. The trio chipped in for 8 points while rugged defenseman Matt Noiles helped with 3 points.

Glace Bay opened the first period with 2 power play goals from Cal MacNeil and Kevin Cormier before the Blues cut the lead in half, with a power play goal of their own, by Matt Noiles. Jordie Shaw and Geoff Burke added the assists.

After twenty minutes the Jr. Miners had a slim 2-1 lead and a 12-9 shot advantage.

Almost six minutes into the middle period the Jr. Miners went up 3-1 when Jordan Langlois struck for his 15th on the year, an unassisted marker. With less than 2 ½ minutes to play, in the period, the Blues fired 2 quick goals to tie the game at 3. First, Jordie Shaw from Geoff Burke and Zach Carson; then, Liam Carr from Marcel Amirault and Mike McClure.

The teams retired to the dressing rooms tied at three with the Blues holding a slim 12-11 shot advantage but the Jr. Miners were on top 23-22 after 2 periods.

In the third the Blues exploded for 4 goals and lay claim to the shot clock at 12-7. Josh Coleman, Marcel Amirault, Tyler Gould and Jordie Shaw, with his 4th point on the afternoon, rounded out the scoring for the Blues. Colin MacKinnon scored the lone goal for Glace Bay.

Charles Dubuc picked up the win for the Blues blocking 29 of 34 shots while Justin Brewer was tagged with the loss handling 33 of 39 shots with the last an empty netter.
