Miners Back In Win Column

The visiting Pictou County Scotians were in town on Saturday Night to take on the Junior Miners who were coming off a loss the previous Sunday putting an end to their season high 7 game winning streak.

At the Bay Plex in Glace Bay the Junior Miners jumped out to an early 2-0 first period lead on goals by captain Brett McCarron and Sam Johnson. Scott Sampson, McCarron and Jordan Langlois all picked up the assists. Before retiring to the dressing rooms Shayne Kelsey cut the Jr. Miners lead in half at 2-1 from Mitchell Watters and Ryan Watters.

Shots after the first twenty minutes favoured the Jr. Miners 18-13.

In the second Cal MacNeil needed only 40 seconds to lift the Jr. Miners into a 3-1 lead from Colin MacKinnon and Brett Simmons. Glace Bay jumped up 4-1 when Kyran Fogarty finished with Chris Ross against a short-staffed and tired Pictou team. The Scotians managed to get within two goalsĀ at 4-2 when Mitchell Watters picked up an unassisted goal with just over four minutes remaining in the period.

In the third Shayne Kelsey added his second of the night from Travis Mosher but 4-3 was as close as the Scotians could get to the Miners.

Scott MacDonald picked the win for Glace Bay who improve to 13-12-1-1 and get to within 3 points of second-place Antigonish Bulldogs. Ben Goss was tagged with the loss. The Scotians are 2-24-2-1 on the year.

Final shot favoured Glace Bay at 57-39.
