Bulldogs Score Overtime Win

On Tuesday night the Glace Bay Junior Miners hit the pavement and headed across the Causeway for Game #1 of the Sid Rowe Semi Finals in Antigonish.

At the Antigonish Arena in Antigonish Graeme Lodge had the Bulldogs up 1-0 on the only goal of the period with Steven MacGilliivray and Justin Chiasson drawing the assists. Despite trailing 1-0 in the opening period Glace Bay had a slight 9-8 shot advantage.The teams played a scoreless second and again the Jr. Miners had the edge on the shot clock at 11-8 for a 2-period total of 20-16.

In the third Fraser White had the Bulldogs out in front 2-0 with an unassisted marker before the Pirates clawed their way back to tie the game at two on goals by Chris Ross from Scott Sampson and Kyran Fogarty then midway through the period Sean Ferguson from Fogarty and Ross. The Bulldogs had the edge in shots at 8-7.

With two minutes 4 seconds remaining, in the first overtime period, Peter Topshee potted the winner for Antigonish with Tim MacDougall and Colby VanOirschot drawing the assists.

Derrick Tait picked up the win for the Bulldogs while Scott MacDonald was tagged with the loss. The Bulldogs take an early 1-0 in the best of seven with game two scheduled for the Bay Plex in Glace Bay Saturday night at 7:30 pm.
