Junior Miners Defeat Blazers
2012-09-23Looking to rebound from last night's opening game loss to the Valley Maple Leafs the Junior Miners looked to come out firing on all cylinders.
At the Sackville Arena the Glace Bay Jr. Miners upset the Sackville Blazers 3-1. Sean Ferguson opened the scoring, for the Miners, with a power play goal just over 5 minutes into the opening period. Brett Simmons picked up the only assist. Speedy overager Andrew Stewart had the Blazers tied at one before Kyran Fogarty had the Miners heading into the first intermission up 2-1.
Shots on goal favoured the Blazers 12-9.
The teams played a scoreless second period with the Miners owning the shot clock at 11-4.
In the third RJ Barrett picked up a power play goal from Ferguson and Brad Fitzgerald to ice the win for Glace Bay.
Scott MacDonald picked up the win while Alex Reynolds suffered the loss in the Sackville net.
