Former Screaming Eagle Joins Junior Miners

GLACE BAY, NS, September 11, 2012 - Defenceman John-Michael Walsh, an 18 year-old native of Westmount, NS who has been playing with the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles will now play for the junior B team from his home area, the Glace Bay Junior Miners.of the Nova Scotia Junior Hockey League.

  The Cape Breton Screaming Eagles announced on Monday night that the club has released Walsh.  His junior B rights were traded to Glace Bay from the Strait Pirates on Sunday and he played for the Miners in a pre-season game with the Pirates Sunday night.

Walsh, 6-0, 173 pounds, played in ten games for the Screaming Eagles last season posting one assist and two penalty minutes and 28 games with the Pictou County Weeks Crushers of the Maritime Junior Hockey League. In 28 games with the Crushers, Walsh recorded 11 points including three goals and eight assists along with 12 penalty minutes. 

Walsh is a product of the Cape Breton Tradesmen of the Nova Scotia Major Midget Hockey League. He was drafted by the Screaming Eagles in the 12th round, 189th overall, in the 2011 QMJHL draft.

He will be affiliated with the Screaming Eagles and continue to practice with the team when it is at home.

He picked up an assist in Glace Bay’s 5-2 exhibition victory over Strait on Sunday night.

The Screaming Eagles currently have 25 players on the roster: 15 forwards, seven defencemen and three goaltenders. Screaming Eagles General Manager Pierre Roux said the team will likely cut another forward prior to the start of the season next week.
