Miners Shutout Sackville Blazers At Home 8-0
2012-10-06Junior Miners players congratulate winning goaltender Scott MacDonald on his 36 save performance and shutout over visiting Sackville Blazers.
The Glace Bay Junior Miners came out firing on all cylinders at the BAYplex on Saturday night and downed the Sackville Blazers 8-0 for the second time in the home and home series.
Goaltender Scott MacDonald turned away all 36 shots he faced in his first shut-out of the 2012-2013 season in what was an exciting game with a lot of hits, a few fights, and plenty of scoring.
The Miners opened the scoring on a goal by Kyran Fogarty as he lit the lamp at the 17:59 mark of the first period. The goalscoring would continue as the Miners added 3 more tallies in the period by John-Micheal Walsh, Brad Fitzgerald, and finally by Chris Ross firing a marker with less than 1 second remaining in the period.
In the second, the Miners continued the domination of the score sheet with 2 goals from Jordan Langois and a tally from Mitch MacDougall.
The final period of the game would see only one goal from Chris Ross (his second of the night), but that was not the end of the excitement as we would also see 4 fights in the game.
With the win, the Junior Miners now sit in 2nd place in the Sid Rowe Division behind the Strait Pirates, and 3rd in the league, with 8 points.
The Miners will again see action next weekend, when they are on the road to face off against the East Hants Penguins on Friday night and are back in action against the Brookfield Elks on Saturday.
