Screaming Eagles Call Up Walsh

2012-10-15

SYDNEY — John Michael Walsh is back with the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles.

The 18-year-old defenceman from Westmount was added to the team’s roster on Monday. The addition of Walsh comes a week after blue-liner Jean-Simon Deslauriers left the team.

Walsh was the final defenceman cut from training camp last month. He played two pre-season games with the Screaming Eagles and has spent the start of the 2012-13 campaign with the Glace Bay Junior Miners of the Nova Scotia Junior Hockey League. Walsh had four goals and four assists in seven games with Glace Bay.

Walsh, a 6-0, 175-pound graduate of the Cape Breton Tradesmen of the Nova Scotia Major Junior Hockey League, played 10 games with the Screaming Eagles last season, picking up an assist and boasted a plus/minus rating of +1 with two penalty minutes. He was called up to the team full time in March, after playing 28 games with the Pictou County Crushers of the Maritime Junior Hockey League.

He was drafted by the Screaming Eagles in the 12th round, 189th overall, in the 2011 Quebec Major Junior Hockey League draft.
