Miners Defeat Mariners, Move Into A Tie For 1st

Sunday noon, the Glace Bay Jr. Miners picked up their 4th straight win and 8th since September 22. The Junior Miners are quietly climbing the ladder, in the Sid Rowe Division, and are now tied with the Strait Pirates for top spot in the division each with 16 points.

At the Eastern Shore Community Centre Sunday afternoon the visiting Glace Bay Junior Miners fired 4 power play goals enroute to a 5-1 win over the Eastern Shore Junior Mariners.

The Junior Mariners jumped on board first, with a power play goal of their own and only goal of the period, when Tyler Somers finished with Dominic Howell and Nick Young.

Shots in the period favoured Glace Bay 11-6.

In the second the Jr. Miners fired 2 unanswered, power play goals to take a 2-1 lead into the second intermission. Ken Routledge tied it at one from Chris Ross and Tyler Pyke then Sean Ferguson from Jordan Langlois and Jake McKendry.

Shots again favoured Glace Bay at 11-8.

In the third Glace Bay added 3 more unanswered goals to go up 5-1 when RJ Barrett fired 2 and then Brad Fitzgerald with 4 seconds remaining in the period. Sean Ferguson and Brett Simmons both picked up a pair of assists while Evan Romard and Chris Ross added single assists. Ross also finished the game with a pair of assists.

Jake McKendry picked up his 5th win of the year kicking out 23 of 24 shots while Luke Zareski was called upon to face 37 Glace Bay shots.
