The Junior Miners are currently on a four game winning streak after winning both games last week in Halifax skating to a 5-2 win on Saturday against Bay Ducks and a 5-1 victory Sunday afternoon in Musquodoboit Harbour over the Eastern Shore Mariners. With the pair of wins, the Miners pulled into a share of first place in the Nova Scotia Junior Hockey League with Strait Pirates and Sackville Blazers.
Three players that continue to lead the way on the score sheet for the Junior Miners are Jordan Langlois, Tyler Pyke and Sean Ferguson.
Langlois is in 2nd place in the league in scoring with eleven goals and seven assists for 18 points in 10 games, and carries a 8 game point streak into Saturday's matchup. Saturday's game is Minor Hockey Night, where any child from any association who wears their minor hockey jersey will be admitted free. Former NHL referee Don Koharski is in town hosting a referee clinic and will drop the ceremonial faceoff puck prior to the game. Cape Breton Screaming Eagles mascot Screech will also be in attendance. Our Timbit players will be playing a “mini game” between the 1st and 2nd period of the game, so be sure to come out and cheer on Glace Bay's smallest athletes!
Also, the Junior Miners will be honouring the Cape Breton University Men's Baseball team who recently finished 2nd at Nationals two weeks ago in Ottawa. There will be a donation jar set up in the main lobby of the BAYplex to help defray their costs.
Glace Bay will be hitting the road next Friday when they travel to Springhill for a rematch at 7:30 pm at the Dr. Carson & Marion Murray Community Center and are back in action the following night as East Hants Penguins are in town for a 7:30 pm matchup against the Junior Miners at the BAYplex.
