McKendry Posts Shutout As Junior Miners Blank Pirates

PORT HAWKESBURY — Jacob McKendry shut the door on the Strait Pirates, making 25 saves for the shutout to lead the Glace Bay Junior Miners to a 2-0 win in Nova Scotia Junior Hockey League action Friday at the Port Hawkesbury Civic Centre.

Chris Ross opened the scoring in the first period in what proved to be the game winner for Glace Bay, who improved their record to 10-4-1-0. They moved two points up on the Strait (9-5-1-0) for top spot in the Sid Rowe Division standings. Sean Ferguson further padded Glace Bay’s advantage in the opening stanza.

Pirates’ netminder Luke Jessop stopped 23 of 25 shots in a losing cause.

Along with being tops in their division, the Junior Miners are also tied with the Sackville Blazers for most points overall in the league. The Blazers sit atop the Fred Fox Division with a 10-4-1-0 record.

The Miners continue play at home when they host the Pictou County Scotians at the Bayplex tonight beginning at 7:30 p.m.
