Scotians Win In Shootout

2012-11-22

The visiting Scotians were in town Saturday night and escaped with a 2-1 shootout victory. Daniel Thomsen’s goal stood as the winner in a game where the Jr. Miners out shot the visitors 49-26.

Glace Bay took a 1-0 first-period lead on a goal by Jordan Langlois, his 13th of the year, a re-direct from Mitch MacDougall and Austin Bates. The Jr. Miners controlled the shot clock at 11-7.

The teams played a scoreless middle period with the Miners holding a huge shot advantage at 22-8 but Pictou goaltender Ben Goss handled everything fired his way.

In the third Craig Matheson scored, the only goal of the period, when he managed to tip the puck past Jake McKendry and tie the game at one. Daniel Thomsen and Nick Hodgson picked up the assists.

Once again the Miners controlled the shot clock 16-8.

The 5-minute overtime settled nothing with the Scotians registering a 3-0 shot advantage.

Ben Goss picked up his 6th win handling 48 of 49 shots while Jake McKendry suffered the loss.
