December 9, 2012. Since Friday afternoon the Glace Bay Jr. Miners have travelled almost 800 miles, spent over 16 hours on the bus; scored a total of 25 goals while allowing only 8 against; and picked up 3 wins for 6 points, in Nova Scotia Junior Hockey League play, to become the top team in the league now with 31 points.

On Friday night the Jr. Miners were in Antigonish where they topped the Bulldogs 7-4. On Saturday night they downed the Pictou County Scotians 6-2 in Glace Bay then Sunday they hit the highway again for a road trip to Springhill where they thumped the home team 12-2. The win has the Miners four points better than their nearest league rival the Sackville Blazers and five better than the divisional rival the Strait Pirates. The Jr. Miners still have a game in hand on both teams. Later in the evening the Pictou County Scotians edged the Antigonish Bulldogs 4-3 in Trenton.

 

At the Richard Calder Arena in Springhill Sunday afternoon the short-staffed Miners were led by RJ Barrett and Kraig Pasher each with 2 goals and 2 assists. Sean Ferguson and Jordan Langlois also had a single marker plus 3 assists each. Rounding out the Glace Bay scoring were Chris Ross, Austin Bates, Kieran Fogarty, Kevin Cormier, Brad Fitzgerald and Tyler McLeod. Ross and McLeod also chipped in with a pair of assists each.

 

Mike McLure and Zack Black managed to score for the Blues.

 

The Jr. Miners led 3-1 after one; 5-2 after two; then blasted 7 unanswered goals in the third.

 

Jake McKendry picked up his picked up his 10th win for Glace Bay while Matt Caron was tagged with the loss.

 

Glace Bay enjoyed a huge 41-20 shot advantage.

 

The Jr. Miners improve to 14-3-3-0.
