GLACE BAY MINERS CONTINUE TO RACK UP WINS
TRENTON, NS, December 16, 2012 - The red-hot Glace Bay Jr. Miners has just two losses, both in shootouts, in their last nine games and currently leads the Nova Scotia Junior Hockey League with 35 points. The latest victory was on Sunday night as the Miners routed the Pictou County Scotians 7-2 at the Trenton Arena.

With sixty percent of the schedule now played the Miners will take a well-deserved break until January 5th when they host the same Pictou squad at the Bay Plex. The Jr. Miners go into the Christmas break with a 16-3-0-3 record.

The Glace Bay squad struck first Sunday night when Kyran Fogarty finished, on the power play, with Tyler Pyke and Ryan Bursey assisting. The Jr. Miners went up 2-0, also on the power play, with Pyke converting and Bursey and Mitch MacDougall assisting. Less than a minute later the Miners’ Tyler MacLeod made it 3-0 with a short-handed marker from Zach Walsh.

Shots in the period favoured Glace Bay at 16-8.

Just 1:18, into the middle frame, Glace Bay added their third power play goal of the night to go up 4-0 when Tyler Pyke, with his second of the night, finished with Kyran Fogarty and Ryan Bursey providing the helpers.

The Scotians finally hit the game sheet with Craig Matheson finishing from Brad MacEachern. The Scotians added their second of the night, in the last minute of the period, when Dustin Bowron converted from Steven MacNeil and Matheson.

After 40 minutes of play Glace Bay led 4-2 on the scoreboard and 33-23 on the shot clock.

The Miners finished with three unanswered goals in the third period to take their 16th win of the season. First Zach Walsh, from RJ Barrett and Tyler Pyke; then, Jordan Langlois from Kraig Pasher; and finally, Pasher from Langlois.

Scott MacDonald picked up his seventh win on the season while Ben Goss who faced 46 shots took the loss.
