Minor Hockey Night - Pirates Visit The BAYplex

GLACE BAY— The Glace Bay Junior Miners will look to pull further ahead in the Nova Scotia Junior Hockey League standings when they host their cross-island rivals Strait Pirates this Saturday in the latest installment of the "Battle of Cape Breton". The puck drops at 7:30 pm at the BAYplex.

The Junior Miners are coming off a 6-3 victory at home this past Saturday as they defeated the Antigonish Bulldogs. With the win, the Miners now have 38 points which moves them 4 points ahead of Sackville for 1st place while also having 2 games in hand.

The Miners continue to be lead offensively by the line of Jordan Langlois, Chris Ross and newcomer Kraig Pasher.

Langlois remains 2nd in league scoring with 24 goals and 18 assists for 42 points while playing in 25 games. Ross sits 7th in league scoring with 13 goals and 19 assists for 32 points in 23 games while Pasher, who was acquired from the Woodstock Slammers of the MHL in December has 6 goals and 7 assists for 13 points in 8 games since joining the Junior Miners.

The Miners also boast the top goaltender in the league in overager Jacob McKendry. McKendry has a league leading 2.19 GAA, .910 SV% while posting a record of 11-5 with 1 shutout. Scott MacDonald also has an impressive record of 7-2 while posting a 3.19 GAA and a .900 SV%.

Saturday night will also be Minor Hockey Night, where any child accompanied by an adult wearing their hockey association's jersey will be admitted free!!! 

There will also be donation jars set up in the main lobby of the BAYplex for a Penny Drive in support of Undercurrent Youth Centre.
All monies collected will go toward the youth center. Admission is $6.00 for adults, $4.00 for students and seniors and $3.00 for children under the age of 12 years old.

Undercurrent Youth Centre is open for young people from all over the Cape Breton Regional Municipality. The center has space for sports like basketball, floor hockey, indoor soccer, skateboarding and even a rock wall. They provide an environment free of alcohol, drugs, bullying, profanity and negative influences.
