Miners Take A Commanding 3-0 Lead In Series

2013-02-27

At the BAYplex in Glace Bay Tuesday night the Junior Miners spotted the Antigonish Bulldogs a 1-0 lead in game before the Miners came roaring back to win the game 5-2, and with the win, lead the best of 7 Sid Rowe Division Semi Finals 3-0.

At the BAYplex the Junior Miners took control of that Sid Rowe Semi Final and now lead the series 3-0 after a 5-2 win over the Antigonish Bulldogs.

The scoring was opened at the 11:44 mark of the 1st when Cory Julian of the Bulldogs took a pass out from behind the net and beat Jake McKendry clean and fast.

Just two minutes later, Brett Simmons on the power play, fired a laser from the point which Dogs tender Keagan Butler didn't even see, let alone have a chance on.

The score remained deadlocked at 1-1 until 37 seconds remaining in the 1st when Brad Fitzgerald would again fire a powerplay goal from the point, then only 26 seconds later, Kyran Fogarty would add to the Miners lead making it 3-1 going into the dressing rooms.

In the 2nd period of play, it was an all out goaltending dual at both ends of the ice where the fans were treated to saves of epic proportions and most were left wondering..."how'd he do that?".

The teams traded goals in the second frame with Fraser White of the Bulldogs getting the Dogs to within 1 at 9:14, but only 30 seconds later Jordan Langlois of the Miners answered back to restore the two goal lead. The Miners would head to the dressing room with a 4-2 lead.

One of the nights BIG stories, was the play of afilliate player Chad Cullen,  who was up from the Cape Breton Tradesmen. For the Miners 5th goal of the night, Chad would steal the puck from the Bulldogs player just inside our blueline, then go coast to coast, circle the Bulldogs net and fire a shot to the top corner, scoring his first Jr. goal in his first Jr. game.

What "Cully" lacks in size he more than makes up for in heart and ability. He never looked out of place during any part of the game last night you would think he was playing here all along.

Jacob McKendry, with a stellar performance picked up his third win while Keagan Butler took the loss.

Glace Bay can wrap this series up Friday night in Antigonish, where a bus load of Miners fans as well as several in their own vehicles will make the trip to cheer on their team and help rock the doghouse.
