Junior Miners Announce 2013 Territorial Selections

Glace Bay, NS, May 8, 2013 - The Glace Bay Junior Miners have selected Chad Cullen (Cape Breton Tradesmen) and Patrick Byrne (Miramichi Timberwolves Jr. A) as the team's 2013 territorial picks, the team announced early Wednesday afternoon.
Each team in the Nova Scotia Junior Hockey League is permitted to select up to two players from their home territory who played their Peewee eligibility in the home Association and have until Friday, May 31st to name their territorial selections.
Byrne, a 18 year-old from Glace Bay, spent last season as a rookie patrolling the blue line for the Miramichi Timberwolves of the Maritime Hockey League (MHL). With the Timberwolves, he posted 5 assists in 45 games while racking up 96 minutes in penalties. Byrne was an affiliated player (AP) with the Junior Miners during the 2011-2012 season.
Cullen, a 17 year-old speedster who also hails from Glace Bay is coming off an impressive season with the Tradesmen where he finished 2nd in team scoring while also being named to the 2nd All Star Team in the NSMMHL. Cullen racked up 16 goals, 23 assists for 39 points in 33 games played this past season while also serving 30 minutes in penalties.
"We are familiar with both players as they each have spent some time with our club the past few seasons as affiliate players." said Jordan Evasuk-MacDonald, General Manager of the Junior Miners. "Patrick is a skilled defenseman who brings a physical presence while making opposing players take notice whenever he's on the ice." Evasuk-MacDonald said. "Chad may be small in stature but he makes up for it with his heart and determination. Chad spent some time with us during the playoffs and instantly became a fan favourite and we look forward to having him at our camp in August.”
