Miners open new season with a big "W"

At the Antigonish Arena Jr. Miners’ slick forward Jordan Langlois hit the mesh first, just 4 minutes in, on a beaut cross seam pass from Sean Ferguson and Tyler Pyke. A minute later the Bulldogs pulled even at one when veteran Tim MacDougall picked up an unassisted goal before Dave MacDonald had the Bulldogs up 2-1 from Connor O’Brien and Cody Reeves. Just past the mid-point, of the period, Mark Gouthro, with the wrap around, had Glace Bay tied at two from Sam Johnson and Ryan Bursey. A minute later the Jr. Miners took the lead for the second time in the period when Mike White finished with Brett Simmons. With just over a minute left, in the period, Mitch Gammon had the teams deadlocked at three from Andrew Foster before heading into the first intermission.
 
Shots in the period favoured Glace Bay 13-8.
 
In the second the Jr. Miners added two unanswered goals to take a 5-3 lead. First, Ryan Bursey from Kyle Peck then Tyler MacLeod from Kyran Fogarty and Sean Ferguson.
 
The Jr. Miners held a huge shot advantage and carried most of the play at 13-4 in the period for a 2-period total of 26-12.
 
In the third the teams traded goals when Mitch Gammon with his 2nd of the night had the Bulldogs to within one at 5-4 and began picking up some steam.  Sean Ferguson dropped the gloves with a Bulldog who was taking a few liberties on the night, and did not dissapoint his team mates, helping to give the Miners the extra boost they needed.  4 minutes later, Mike White fired his second of the night and iced the win for the Jr. Miners with just under four minutes to play.
 
Nick Walsh faced only 21 shots in picking up the Glace Bay win while Brandon MacDonald suffered the loss on 31 shots.
