Miners take 3 of 4 possible points over weekend
2013-09-22In the second game of the weekend, the Miners Home Opener, the boys dropped an early lead in the game to end up with a heartbreaking shoot-out loss to the Brookfield Elks
In Glace Bay the Jr. Miners jumped into a 2-0 lead on goals by Chris Ross and Rookie Mike White, scoring his 3rd goal of the young season, before the Elks stormed back with three to take a 3-2 lead. Lucas Dawe, Matt Canning and Leon Knockwood all scored for Brookfield and silenced the big Glace Bay crowd. However, with just under a minute and a half remaining, Jordan Langlois managed to draw the game at three and set the stage for a 5-minute overtime period.
The overtime settled nothing until Kaden Augustine’s shootout goal stood as the winner for Brookfield.
Spencer Scott picked up his first win of the early season as he faced 64 shots while Scott MacDonald suffered the loss facing 29.
The Miners will take to the road next weekend for 2 games, playing on Saturday in Eastern Shore against the Mariners, then on Sunday they will make the trip west to take on the Valley Maple Leafs.
