Miners again take 3 of 4 points

The Glace Bay Jr Miners were on the road this past weekend where they took home 3 of a possible 4 points. Rookie goaltender, Nick Walsh earning the shutout in only his 2nd Junior Hockey start.

September 28, 2013. Saturday night action, in the Nova Scotia Junior Hockey League, the Eastern Shore Junior Mariners needed a shootout to nip the Glace Bay Jr. Miners 6-5.  At the Eastern Shore Community Centre in Musquodoboit Harbour the Eastern Shore Junior Mariners picked up their second win, of the early season, in a shootout over the visiting Glace Bay Jr. Miners in an extreamly chippy and intense game. 
Glace Bay led 3-1 after one; 4-4 after two with both teams adding a third period goal.  The overtime period settled nothing, however the Mariners scored twice during the shoot-out to the Miners 1.

Berwick, NS. September 29, 2013. Just the one game, in the Nova Scotia Junior Hockey League, saw the Glace Bay Jr. Miners shut out the Valley Maple Leafs 3-0 Sunday afternoon. For the Leafs their first loss in the early season. 
At the Kings Mutual Century Centre in Berwick , Nova Scotia the Glace Bay Jr. Miners were determined to get back into the win column after starting the season with a win then squandering the lead in their last two games. 
The teams played a scoreless first period with the Valley Maple Leafs holding the edge on the shot clock at 12-8. 
In the second both Nick Walsh of the Jr. Miners and Mitch Culley of the Leafs kept the teams tied at 0-0 despite the Jr. Miners holding a fairly healthy shot advantage at 16-6. 
Halfway through the third Glace Bay rookie Lincoln Bradley finally had the puck in behind Culley. John Walsh and Brett Simmons picked up the assists.  Three and a half minutes later Glace Bay took a 2-0 lead when speedster Chris Ross finished with Lincoln Bradley and Brett Simmons. The Jr Miners iced the win with an empty net goal by John O’Brien. Tyler Pyke picked up the single assist. 
Rookie goaltender Nick Walsh picked up the win for Glace Bay blocking all 27 shots. Mitch Culley suffered the loss. 
With the win Glace Bay improve to 2-0-2-0 while the Leafs slip to 3-1-0-0.
