Junior Miners Earn Three of Possible Four Points on Roadtrip

A very busy weekend for the Junior Miners saw them hit the road early Friday for a pair of games against the host East Hants Penguins before finishing off their road trip Saturday night in Brookfield.

A very busy Friday night in the Nova Scotia Junior Hockey League saw the East Hants Penguins nip the Glace Bay Junior Miners 5-4 in overtime at the East Hants Sportsplex.

In Lantz, Penguins captain Marc Thibodeau, with his second of the night, broke a 4-4 tie with just a minute and a half remaining in overtime. Cole MacDonell and Brandon Leonardo picked up the assists.
 
Jordan Lauther, Cole Baker and Jamie Sweet also scored for the Penguins. Brandon Leonardo pitched in with three assists while James Shapleigh hit for a pair.
 
Zach Walsh potted a pair of tallies for the Junior Miners while Kyran Fogarty and Drew Walsh notched singles. Fogarty also chipped in with two assists.
 
The teams were tied at one after one; tied at two after two. Then in the third Jamie Sweet managed to tie the game at four with just over a minute twenty-two seconds remaining.
 
Jason Ellis picked up the win for East Hants while Nick Walsh took the loss.

In Brookfield the Junior Miners opened with the only goal of the period, when Zach Walsh picked up his 6th of the year from Drew Wilcox and Shawn Neville.
 
Glace Bay controlled the shot clock at 20-13.
 
The Junior Miners also scored the only goal of the second period when Chris Ross finished with Drew Wilcox picking up the assist with Glace Bay holding a slight edge on the shot clock at 16-14 for a 2-period of 36-27.
 
In the third the Junior Miners went up 3-0 when Drew Wilcox picked up a power play goal, his third point of the night, from Lincoln Bradley and Brett Simmons. A pair of late goals by newly-acquired Richard Nerysoo had the Elks to within two at 3-2 before the final buzzer sounded. Matt Canning picked up assists on both the Brookfield goals.
 
Scott MacDonald picked up the win for Glace Bay handling 38 of 40 shots while Spencer Scott took the loss facing 55 shots.
