2013-11-04

With 2 games in 2 nights on the mainland this weekend, the Jr Miners completed the sweep of all 4 points vs the Sackville Blazers on Friday and then the Bay Ducks on Saturday.

In Lower Sackville the lights were out, at the rink, when the Glace Bay Jr. Miners arrived at the Sackville Arena but when they left everything was a glow as they doubled the Sackville Blazers 6-3 before a large crowd of Sackville Minor Hockey League players and parents. Sam Johnson led the way for the Jr. Miners with a pair of goals with singles going to Lincoln Bradley, Ryan Bursey, Zach Walsh and Andrew McPhee.
Ryan Davis, Brian Reardon and Shane Boudreau answered for the Blazers who outshot the visitors 32-29.
The teams played a scoreless first period; the Jr. Miners led 3-2 after two then outscored the Blazers 3-1 in the third.
With the win the Jr. Miners improve to 7-1-2-1 while the Blazers suffer just their 2nd loss and slip to 6-2-0-0.

On Saturday night, the Miners enjoyed a night of Duck Hunting......
At the St. Margaret’s Centre Zach Walsh, with his 8
th of the season, had Glace Bay up 1-0 before the game was 3 minutes old with Drew Wilcox and Colton Abraham collecting the assists.  The Ducks’ Josh Clark, with his 7th of the season, had the teams drawn at one from Brian Naugle and heading into the first intermission ahead on the shot clock 12-8.
In the second the Jr. Miners rallied for 3 unanswered goals and a 4-1 lead after 40 minutes. Mark Gouthro, Ryan Bursey and Drew Wilcox, on the power play, all scored for Glace Bay. Kyle Peck, Sean Ferguson, Ryan Jackson, Lincoln Bradley and Shawn Neville all picked up assists in the period where the Jr. Miners held a 10-6 shot advantage for a 2-period total of 18 apiece.
Exactly 3 minutes into the final period Jr. Miners’ Tyler Pyke had Glace Bay up 5-1 with an unassisted marker before Conor Carson netted the Ducks second goal from Ryan Phillips and Nick Handrahan. A minute later Ryan Bursey, picked up his second of the night, from Chris Ross and Sean Ferguson. The Jr. Miners picked up their 3rd power play goal of the night when Dylan Bork finished with Mark Gouthro and Sean Ferguson.
Nick Walsh collected the win for Glace Bay while Jacob Dempsey was tagged with the loss.
