Miners shoot Pirate Ship full of holes
2013-12-14December 14, 2013. In Nova Scotia Junior Hockey League action, Saturday night, the Glace Bay Jr. Miners walloped the Strait Pirates 11-2
At the Bay Plex in Glace Bay the Jr. Miners were out to avenge a November 29th 4-3 loss in Port Hawkesbury and avenge they did scoring 11 goals and only allowing 2 to knot the ‘Battle of Cape Breton’ series at a game apiece.
Mark Gouthro, Chris Ross, Sam Johnson and Kyran Fogarty all paced the Jr. Miners with 2 goals apiece with Fogarty also picking up a pair of assists. Zach Walsh chipped in with 4 assists. Ryan Bursey, Tyler Pyke and Drew Wilcox also scored for Glace Bay who led 2-1 after one; 7-2 after two then fired 4 unanswered goals in the third.
Kenzie Dowie and Bryson Landry answered for the Pirates who were outshot 20-9 in the first; 22-14 in the second and even at 12 apiece in the third.
Nick Walsh picked up his 10th win of the year while Marcus Otmar was charged with the loss.
Final shots were 54-35 Glace Bay.
