Miners Sink Pirates

In the NSJHL, the Glace Bay Jr. Miners down the Strait Pirates 6-1 in Glace Bay to take both ends of a home-and-home series on the weekend. On Friday, the Miners nipped the Pirates 3-2. The win gives the Jr. Miners a very comfortable 17-point lead in the Sid Rowe Division.

On Friday night in Port Hawkesbury Kyran Fogarty fired two goals and picked up a helper to pace the Jr. Miners to a 3-2 win over their Cape Breton counterpart the Strait Pirates.
The teams played a scoreless opening period before the Jr. Miners opened up a 2-0 second period lead on goals by Fogarty and Brett Simmons.
In the third David Greencorn had the Pirates to within one at 2-1 but seven minutes later the Jr. Miners on Fogarty’s second goal of the evening had the visitors up 3-1. Pirate rookie Kenzie Dowie, with his 12th of the year once again had the Pirates to within one but the Jr. Miners held on to pick up their 18th win of the year.
Nick Walsh registered his 11th win while Marcus Otmar took the loss.
Final shots were 37-13 Glace Bay.

At the Bay Plex in Glace Bay on Saturday night, six separate players provided the Jr. Miners' offense. Tyler MacLeod, Ryan Jackson, Kyran Fogarty, Drew Wilcox, John O’Brien and Ryan Bursey. Fogarty and Bursey both picked up a pair of assists while speedster Chris Ross figured for three assists.

David Greencorn scored the lone Strait Pirates goal.
Glace Bay led 3-1 after one; 4-1 after two and added two unanswered markers in the third.
Scott MacDonald picked up his 8th win of the year facing 27 shots while Shawn Jeffrey took the loss on 46 shots.
The Jr. Miners have just lost once in the last 14 games and now have 41 points on the year out of a possible 48.
