Miners Secure 1st Place - Home Ice Advantage

The Jr Miners, with wins on both Sat and Sun night in NSJHL action have secured 1st place overall for the league in the Regular season for the 2nd year in a row. The 1st place ranking gives the Miners home ice advantage through-out the playoffs.

On Saturday night at the Bay Plex in Glace Bay the Jr. Miners doubled the Strait Pirates 6-3 to clinch top spot in the league with 53 points. The Jr. Miners have earned home ice advantage for the playoffs.
Sean Ferguson paced the Jr. Miners with a pair of goals, his 10th and 11th, while Kyle Peck, JM Walsh, Lincoln Bradley and Ryan Bursey all added singles. Walsh also helped out with three assists. Brett Simmons also had three assists.
Gavyn Helle potted a pair for the Pirates with Morgan Timmons adding a single.
The teams were tied at one after one; tied at three after two before the Jr. Miners unloaded for three unanswered in the third.
Nick Walsh picked up his 15th win tying him with Valley’s Mitch Culley for 15 wins apiece best in the league.
Final shots were 40-30 Glace Bay.

On Sunday night, the Jr. Miners had little problems with the Bay Ducks as they skated to a 6-1 win over the short-staffed Ducks. The Ducks had a goaltender and nine skaters.

Andrew MacPhee, Zach Walsh, Jordan Langlois, Sam Johnson, Kyran Fogarty and Brett Simmons all scored for Glace Bay.
Ben Richardson had the lone goal for the Ducks.
The Jr. Miners led 1-0 after one; 4-0 after two then added two more in the third.
Scott MacDonald registered his 11th win while Jacob Dempsey was tagged with the loss.
Final shots were 57-22 Glace Bay.

The Miners will again be in action at home this Saturday night, 15 Feb, against the Antigonish Bulldogs.  Of note, the Miners will be facing off against the Bulldogs in the first round of playoffs, giving this game a playoff type atmosphere.....Come out and support YOUR Jr Miners.
