Miner Go Up 2-0 in Best of 7

The Jr Miners defeated the Antigonish Bulldogs in both games this past weekend to take a 2 games to 0 lead in their best of 7 playoff series.

At the Bay Plex in Glace Bay on Saturday night, the Jr. Miners jumped into a 2-0 lead on goals by Mark Gouthro and Lincoln Bradley before Riley Cameron cut the lead in half for the Bulldogs at 2-1 before heading into the first intermission.
 Shots in the period favoured the Bulldogs 10-9.
 Five and a half minutes into the middle period call-up Declan Smith had the Bulldogs locked at two with the only goal of the period.
 Shots again favoured the Bulldogs at 8-9 for a 2-period total of 19-17.
 In the third it was all Glace Bay as they added a power play, an even strength and an empty net goal to take the first game of their semi-final series 5-2. Jordan Langlois with two and Zach Walsh did the damage for Glace Bay. JM Walsh pitched in with three assists for Glace Bay who outshot the Bulldogs 31-27.
 Nick Walsh, who picked up an assist, had the win for the Jr. Miners while Brandon MacDonald took the loss for the Bulldogs.

In Antigonish on Sunday night, the Glace Bay Jr. Miners spotted the Bulldogs a 1-0 lead before tying the game, midway through the third, then fired an overtime marker to take a 2-0 series lead back to Glace Bay in a hard-fought Sid Rowe semi-final.

 The teams played a scoreless opening period with the Jr. Miners having an edge on the shot clock at 10-6.
 In the second Nate Letcher scored the only goal of the period to get Antigonish up 1-0 heading into the second intermission.
 Shots in the period favoured Antigonish 14-9 for a two-period total of 20-19.
 Nearing the mid-point of the third period Jr. Miners’ defenseman JM Walsh had the game knotted at one with the only goal of the period to set the stage for this first overtime period. Chris Ross and Tyler MacLeod picked up the assists.
 Then with just 3:10 remaining, in the first overtime period, Mark Gouthro pulled the trigger for Glace Bay from team captain Brett Simmons and JM Walsh to grab the win.
 Nick Walsh picked up his second playoff win while Brandon MacDonald took the loss.
 Final shots were 31-25 Glace Bay.
 
Game three will now be back in Glace Bay Saturday night, 7:30 Puck Drop at the Bayplex.
