Miners complete the sweep of Bulldogs

The Jr Miners complete the 4 game sweep of the Bulldogs on the first round, now wait the winner of Scotians / Pirates to face in the Sid Rowe Finals

At the Bay Plex in Glace Bay on Saturday Night, JM Walsh paced the Jr. Miners with five points on a single tally plus four assists. Mark Gouthro picked up a hat trick while Jordan Langlois pitched in with four points on two goals and two assists. Tyler Pyke had a single to go with three assists with Dylan Bork, Kyran Fogarty and Andrew MacPhee all adding singles. Sean Ferguson helped the Miners’ cause with three assists.
Mitch Gammon scored the lone Antigonish goal back in the first minute of the second period.
The Jr. Miners took a 4-0 lead after one; 8-1 after two then added two in the third.
Scott MacDonald picked up the win for Glace Bay while Brandon MacDonald, although replaced at the start of the second period, was tagged with the loss.
Final shots were 55-29 Glace Bay.
Glace Bay can close out the series Sunday night in Antigonish.

At the Antigonish Arena on Sunday night, the Glace Bay Jr. Miners’ forward Sean Ferguson scored the only goal of the opening period from Tyler Pyke and Ryan Jackson to give the visitors a 1-0 lead and a 16-7 shot advantage.

The Jr. Miners went up 2-0 when Mark Gouthro fired the only marker in the second, a power play goal, from Lincoln Bradley and Ryan Jackson.
In the third, the Jr. Miners fired an insurance marker with the only goal of the period when Tyler MacLeod finished with Brett Simmons.
Nick Walsh picked up the win while Patrick McNamara was tagged with the loss.
Final shots were 34-28 Glace Bay.
Glace Bay will now advance to the Sid Rowe final which will either be the Pictou County Scotians or the Strait Pirates. The Scotians are currently leading the other Sid Rowe semi three games to two.
The Bulldogs will say good-bye and thank you to their overagers for wearing their uniform the last four years. Finishing up their junior hockey careers are defenseman Colby VanOirschot, forwards Mitch Gammon, the very skilled Tim MacDougall and ever-reliable Fraser White. The Antigonish organization wishes their seniors all the best in whatever the future lays ahead for them.
