Jr Miners jump out to 2-0 Lead in Sid Rowe Finals

The Jr Miners jumped out to a 2-0 series lead in the best of 7 Sid Rowe division finals on Friday night with a 4-2 win over the Strait Pirates. Action will resume next week on Friday night at the PHCC for game 3.

At the Bay Plex in Glace Bay the Glace Bay Jr. Miners doubled the Strait Pirates to take a 2-0 lead in their best-of-seven Sid Rowe final.
 Nathan Hayes started off the scoreing on a point shot which beat Nick Walsh through a crowd at the 11:34 mark of the first.  Just under 6 minutes later, Chris Ross of the Miners would knot the game at 1-1 on a shorthanded blast over the shoulder of Butler, and send the teams to the dressing rooms tied, the Miners owened the shot clock advantage at 17-9.

In the 2nd frame, Drew Wilcox jumped on a loose puck and stuffed it home on the powerplay at the 5:12 mark to set the Miners ahead 2-1.
With only :47 left on the clock in the 2nd, Miners Mark Gouthrou scored his league leading 7th playoff (and game winning) goal on a perfect tic-tac-toe from Tyler Pyke and Lincon Bradley to send the boys into the intermission up 3-1.  Miners outshot the Pirates in the period by a total of 19-13.

In the final period of the game, Kenzie Dowie of the Pirates would pick up a loose puck and beat the Miners tender clean on an unnassisted short hand goal, but less than 3 minutes later, the Miners restored their 2 goal cussion when Sean "fergie" Ferguson would break in off a set up of Tyler Pyke and Chris Ross to deak the Pirate tender for a great goal.


Miners tender Nick Walsh kicked out 29 of 31shots to pick up his 5th win of the playoffs while Keagan Butler faced 44 shots and was tagged with the loss.
 
Games three and four now shift back to Port Hawkesbury next Friday and Sunday. Both games a 7:30 start.
