Junior Miners Take Series Lead With 4-2 Over Blazers

SACKVILLE — Mark Gouthro’s go-ahead goal with 4:52 to go in the third period led the Glace Bay Junior Miners to a 4-2 win over the Sackville Blazers in Nova Scotia Junior Hockey League playoff action Sunday at the Sackville Arena. Files from the Cape Breton Post.

The win gives Glace Bay a 2-1 lead in the best-of-seven championship series. Game 4 is slated for Monday at 7 p.m. in Sackville.

Ryan Bursey scored into the empty net to seal the deal with 29 seconds to go in regulation. Sean Ferguson with an unassisted tally on the power play in the first, and Chris Ross in the second, rounded out the attack.

Andrew Skinner and a power-play tally from Matthew Arthur replied with second-period goals for the Blazers.

Rookie netminder Nick Walsh stopped 22 shots in the win. Jonathan Boutin steered aside 26 pucks in the loss.

Game 5 will be played at the Bayplex in Glace Bay on April 12 at 7:30 p.m. If necessary, Game 6 will be played in Sackville on April 18, and Game 7 on April 19 in Glace Bay.

The series winner will move on to the 2014 Don Johnson Memorial Cup in Port Hawkesbury, April 22-27. The tournament is being hosted by the Strait Pirates.
