Junior Miners Dump Blazers To Take 3-2 Series Lead

Glace Bay, NS. April 12 ,2014. Saturday night, at the BAYplex in Glace Bay, the Glace Bay Junior Miners dumped the Sackville Blazers 6-2, before a full house, to take a 3-2in their best-of-seven Nova Scotia Junior Hockey League final.

The Junior Miners, who have only lost four times at home this year will be looking to close out the series next Friday night in Lower Sackville.
 
Tyler Pyke opened the scoring for the home team just  under two minutes into the opening period, on the power play, from Sean Ferguson and JM Walsh. Then with just over two minutes to play in the period Shayne Oderkirk finished from Andrew Skinner and Justin Hessian to knot the game at one heading into the first intermission.
 
After twenty minutes shots were dead even at 13 apiece.
 
In the second the Junior Miners struck for three unanswered goals with the first coming just twenty-one seconds in when Andrew MacPhee converted from Ryan Bursey and Chris Ross. MacPhee added his second of the night  two and a half minutes later on a Sackville turnover giving the Junior Miners a 3-1 lead. Just past the mid-point of the middle frame Tyler Pyke, also picked up his second of the night, with Mark Gouthro and JM Walsh drawing the assists on the Junior Miners second power play goal of the evening.
 
Shots in the period favoured Glace Bay 18-10 for a 2-period total of 31-23.
 
In the third Sean Ferguson made it 5-1 from Jordan Langlois and Dylan Bork then two and a half minutes later Bork had Glace Bay up 6-1 from Zach Walsh and JM Walsh. For Glace Bay’s flashy rearguard  JM Walsh he had three points on the night giving him 23 best in the playoffs. Sackville managed to get their second goal on the evening when Justin Hessian finished with team captain Shayne Oderkirk.
 
Shots in the period were 14-6 for Glace Bay.
 
Nick Walsh picked up his 8th win of the post-season while Jonathan Boutin, the work horse of the Sackville Blazers and just 8 minutes shy of 1,000 minutes played, took the loss.
  
Game six will now be Friday night in Lower Sackville at 7:30 pm.
